Beetroot Strawberry Lip Balm

Its going to be girls night-out tonight.. We all are  meeting after very long time.. Its going to be fun. However I was thinking what should I gift  them.. Well there are few things which I have bought, but I wanted to give something made by me. Then I thought of some colored lip balm.. Then after doing some research I got idea of using beetroot powder.

I did not have beetroot powder and I did not have time to search it in market. I thought of experimenting and decided to use beetroot juice.. After all I just needed its color. I could use some color from market, but I wanted this lip balm to be natural.

Beetroot always gives color to my hands when I boil it :), So beetroot was best choice. Thanks to Marie as she have mentioned in one of her post that beetroot is water soluble and  therefore she used glycerin to make lip gloss.

I also wanted nice fragrance, so I decided to give it strawberry flavor.. Girls love it.

Then I started with my recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 beetroot (Medium size)
  • 1 tablespoon beeswax
  • 2 teaspoon glycerin
  • 4.5 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 Vitamin E capsules
  • 1/2 teaspoon strawberry essence

Boil beetroot and remove it’s skin. Then grind it to make paste.

I then added water to paste and filtered it.

Then boiled this colored water to make it little more concentrated. I heated on low flame for 5-8 minutes.

Then in double boiler I added glycerin and 3 teaspoons of beetroot juice. And mixed it well.

Once it was mixed properly I added beeswax and olive oil

Heated in double boiler till wax melted properly. I was stirring it continuously.. But beetroot-glycerin mixture was still not getting mixed properly.

Then I turned off burner and whipped it using blender. And result was as expected.. Finally it was mixed properly forming a uniform fluid. (sigh)

I added essence and vitamin E oil by breaking capsules.

Again mixed using blender and poured it in lip balm containers. I kept then as it is to cool down and solidify.

This has aroma of strawberry and color of beetroot.

When I tried it, it gives pink tint on lips with this amazing aroma of strawberry.. 🙂

I would love to hear feedback from you..
